Today was the final day of the European Guide Conference. The main activity of the morning was the voting session – the opportunity for Member Organizations to formally decide on the objectives and strategic direction of the Europe Region WAGGGS for the next three years.

The operational plan of the Europe Region WAGGGS 2009-2011 was formally approved by the Conference: motions concerning joint work with the European Scout Region, a future eurolife event, research on European funding and the organizations of future seminars organized by the region were the topics of some of the other motions discussed and approved during this session. A full record of the decisions taken during the Conference can be found in the June edition of europak.

Diane Dixon, outgoing Chairman of the Europe Committee WAGGGS, in her closing speech, thanked the hosts of the Conference, Zdruzenje Slovenskih Katoliskih Skavtinj In Skatov and Zveza Tabornikov Slovenije, and everyone who had worked on the organization and contributed to the success of the 12th European Guide Conference.  Diane also introduced the new Chairman of the Europe Committee, Fabiola Canavesi, who thanked Member Organizations for the trust they had placed in her to lead the work of the region for the next three years and announced Lara Tonna as the Vice-Chairman of the region.

European Guide and Scout Conference

Thursday was also the final day of the European Guide and Scout Conference. Delegates voted on the recommendations which had been presented to the Joint Conference. Fabiola Canavesi and Craig Turpie (the new Chairman of the European Scout Committee) made a speech recalling some of the personal highlights of the last three years, and looking forward to the new Triennium. Then, the 12th European Guide and Scout Conference was formally closed by Diane Dixon and Lidija Poziac Frketic, but delegates were reminded of the events of the last few days in the closing ceremony, which took place close in the lagoon, close to the conference venue.

The 13th European Guide and Scout Conference in 2010 will take place in Belgium.
