The Council of Europe

The fundamental objective of the Council of Europe is to preserve and promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

The Europe Region WAGGGS is one of a number of INGOs which has participatory status with the Council of Europe. This means that WAGGGS may be invited to contribute to the work of the Council of Europe, and can participate in the INGO Conference, which takes place four times a year in Strasbourg.

The Europe Region WAGGGS is also a member of the Advisory Council of the Youth and Sport Directorate of the Council of Europe, a unique system where the priorities of the youth sector are developed and implemented by government and youth representatives working together.
The Advisory Council on Youth is made up of 30 representatives from youth NGOs and networks who provide opinions and input on all youth sector activities. As a member of the Advisory Council, WAGGGS contributes to the development of the priorities of the youth sector and with other youth and government representatives, makes recommendations for future budgets and programmes, which are then adopted by the Committee of Ministers, the Council of Europe’s decision-making body.

WAGGGS also participates in Council of Europe initiatives and campaigns for example, the recent Council of Europe All Different All Equal Campaign and the EU-Africa Youth Summit.
